I Wanna Know How It Works!
Copyright © 2006 Amy Skelton Otey & Alexander V. Otey 2006

I wanna know how it works; I wanna know what makes it go tick-tock.
I wanna know how it works; I wanna know what makes it spin and rock.
I wanna know how it flies; I wanna know what makes it go sky high.
I wanna know how moves, I wanna know how it slides and grooves.

What makes the ocean wave, what makes the lion brave?
I wanna know because I want to know, I wanna know about it all.
Know, know, know, know, know, know, know
Know, know, know, know

I wanna know how it works; I wanna know what makes it go around.
I wanna know how it works; I wanna know what makes it make a sound.
I wanna know how it floats; I wanna know what makes the music notes.
I wanna know how it glides, I wanna know how it slips and slides.

What makes the moon come out, what makes volcanoes spout?
I wanna know because I want to know, I wanna know about it all.
Know, know, know, know, know, know, know
Know, know, know, know

I know that 2 plus 2 equals 4, but I wanna, I wanna, I wanna know more!
I know that 4 plus 4 equals 8, but I just, just, just can't wait!
How does a rainbow start, and who, who makes the snow?
When did the dinosaurs come here, and where, where did they go?
What is the meaning of life, and why, why do I grow?

I wanna know, I wanna know, I wanna know, know, know, know,
Know, know, know, know, know, know, know, know...

I wanna know how it works; I wanna know what makes it go so fast.
I wanna know how it works; I wanna know what makes the day go past.
I wanna know how it climbs; I wanna know how to make good rhymes.
I wanna know how it stops; I wanna know why a rabbit hops.

What makes the whole world turn, what makes the big sun burn?
I wanna know because I want to know, I wanna know about it all.

I wanna know because I want to know, I wanna know because I want to know!
know, know, know, know, know, know, know, know, know,
Yeah, yeah. I wanna know!

Ever Stop to Wonder
Copyright © 2007 Amy Skelton Otey

Ever stop to wonder why things fall down instead of falling up?
Ever stop to wonder why it's hard to hold your milk without a cup?
Building blocks made up of matter, right before your eyes.
Put together then they scatter, wake up now get wise!

Ever stop to wonder why a tree puts down its roots before it grows?
Ever stop to wonder why a cloud can hold the rain or even snow?
Always changing re-arranging, round and round it goes
Like the wind when it is moving' invisible it blows.

States of matter, solid, liquid gas
States of matter, solid, liquid gas

Ever stop to wonder why the laws of nature always do apply?
Every stop to wonder how Ben Franklin pulled the lighting from the sky?
Curiosity is feeding new inventions every day.
Look around you find the need and then you will find your way.

States of matter, solid, liquid gas
States of matter, solid, liquid gas

The wind is invisible but still it's there.
You can't touch music but it is everywhere.
So wave your hand join the band, raise your voice and sing!

So wave your hand join the band, raise your voice and sing!

Ever stop to wonder why things fall down instead of falling up?
Ever stop to wonder why it's hard to hold your milk without a cup?
Building blocks made up of matter, right before your eyes.
Put together then they scatter, wake up now get wise!

States of matter, solid, liquid gas
States of matter, solid, liquid gas

Those most like our Earth in size (Say it!)
Next we see the asteroid belt
This is where all the space junk has a party so
Shake it wide, shake it small
Shake it low and shake it tall
Aw - if you've got junk in your trunk just shake it!!

(say it!) Uranus spins on its side

Hey where'd they get that planet's name anyway?
They took it from the Greek God of the same name and you
know what? - What?
Uranus was the first planet we ever discovered with a
telescope in 1781 instead of the naked eye.
Did she just say naked? Yes she did!

The eighth planet closest to out sun is Neptune
(say it!) Neptune (say it!) Neptune
Neptune is far and windy
(say it!) Neptune is far and windy
And that's all she wrote

What about Pluto Miss Amy?
Well here's the story of Pluto...

Once upon a time in February of 1930 Pluto was discovered, by a guy named Clyde
Even though Pluto is small compared to the Jovian planets it was a cool discovery
and was added as a planet to our solar system
And then in August of 2006 there was a meeting of the International Astronomical Union
who set up a definition of what it means to be a planet and Pluto was bumped out!

(Bumped out!!)

Yep - now Pluto is just an orbital but you know what (no what?)

It’s still... CHORUS

Butterfly Effect

(A nod to the father of Chaos theory Edward Lorenz)

You can make the world a better place
if you take the time to show, your smiling face.
Take a look around
turn it upside down
and make a happy world.
Yea-Yeah, Yea-Yeah, Yea-Yeah

It's in the way you feel
the butterfly effect is oh so real.
Take the time to share
you can show you care
and make a happy world
Yea-Yeah, Yea-Yeah, Yea-Yeah

And when you're feeling blue
don't let it bother you.
Just take a quiet time
and it will all be fine.
Show it with your heart
and change can start today!
Yea-Yeah, Yea-Yeah, Yea-Yeah

The slightest little change, could positively re-arrange
the end result and through,
yeah it's up to you!
Let's make a happy world!
Yea-Yeah, Yea-Yeah, Yea-Yeah!

Go Joe
Copyright © 2007 Amy Skelton Otey & Alexander v. Otey

Hey everybody, come meet my friend Joe!

I've got a dog named Joe I'm gonna take him out to show.
He’s a cock-a poodle-schnauser-wawa mix.
If I treat him really nice - with sugar and spice,
he'd like to show you some tricks.

He wags his tail, wags his tail. He can go up, down spin around
jump jack, clap clap. Wag his tail for you.

See my dog named Joe likes to play in the snow
and he likes to walk in the park.
He can sit and roll over like a regular Rover
but he sure does like to bark.

He likes to bark, he likes to bark. He can go up, down spin around
jump jack, clap clap. He can bark for you.

Joe can you use your big boy voice? (bark) Wow Joe!

Yes my dog named Joe can play catch when I throw my Frisbee to him on the
lawn. But my neighbor has a pet that he likes to try to get
when he sees her then he's gone. MEOW....

He likes to chase, he likes to chase. He can go up, down spin around
jump jack, clap clap. He can chase for you.

No Joe – please don’t chase Mrs. Fluffypants. And leave her cat toys alone!

OK Joe, let’s go for a walk. But don’t get out of your leash! Joe, Joe! No!!!

I’ve got a dog his name is Joe. He likes to run and likes to go.
Go Joe! Go Joe! (big chase)

Well my dog named Joe is likable so
when you see him you can give him a pat
But he's really had a day, full of play
and what he needs right now is a nap.
Yeah he can nap, he can nap. He can lie on the floor and thump his tail. But right now he’s Zzzzzzzzz. (Ding-dong)
(Barking)

He can go up, down spin around, jump jack, clap clap. Do some tricks for you.
He can go up, down spin around, jump jack, clap clap. Do some tricks for you.
Would you like a treat Joe? OK, say, “I Love You”. Bye-bye!

Gandy Dancer
Copyright © 2006 Amy Skelton Otey & Alexander v. Otey

Grandpa was a gandy dancer out on the Santa Fe Trail
He'd work from noon till night pounding down that rail
He'd sing now,
Pound, Pound, Pound
Pound, Pound, Pound
Pound, Pound, Pound
along the Sante Fe Rail.

Engineer Bob was a likeable fellow and he treated his engine just right
made sure the coal kepy coming, fed it day and night.
He'd sing now
Chugg, Chugg, Chugg
Chugg, Chugg, Chugg
Chugg, Chugg, Chugg
along the South Western Rail.

Well the train kept running down the track
chugging along, never looking back.
It took a mighty team to make it run
but it's how the West was won. Yeah it’s how the West was won.

Used to be trains had to stop to oil up the engine
'till a man named McCoy changed it all when he made the "Real McCoy" invention
Singing
Go, Go, Go
Go, Go Go
Go, Go, Go
Along the Michigan Rail

OK let’s take it down the mountain on little feet. Here we go. Here comes the tunnel! Everybody bend down. Make yourself really small and keep your feet moving. Very good. Oh Wow – here’s the big mountain. Let’s move up the big mountain with big steps. Big step, big step, big step.

The train kept running down the track
chugging along, never looking back.
It took a mighty team to make it run
but it's how the West was won. Yeah it’s how the West was won!

Thank you all inventors who worked on transportation.
Without your innovation, we’d jus be sitting in a station.

Sing it:
Pound, Pound, Pound
Chugg, Chugg, Chugg
Go, Go, Go
along the Sante Fe Rail

(2) along the South Western Rail.
(3) along the Michigan Rail.

Everybody blow your whistle!
OK let's bring it back to the station on little feet.

Nightlight

Nightlight, bright light, won't you keep me company tonight?
Nightlight, bright light, won't you keep me company tonight?

Sometimes I get it into my head
There night be a monster under the bed,
or I've had a bad dream
from something scary I've seen.
I open my eyes - I'm not surprised -
to see you shining back at me!

So thank you Nikola Tesla. Thank you Thomas Edison.
Thank you Ben Franklin, for making my nightlight happen!

Nightlight, bright light, won’t you keep me company tonight?
Nightlight, bright light, keep me company tonight?

125 years you've been incandescent -
now you’re switching over to florescent
making it better for the world to see.
We'll open our eyes and win the prize
Of more efficient energy!

So thank you Nikola Tesla. Thank you Thomas Edison.
Thank you Ben Franklin, for making my nightlight happen!

Nightlight, bright light, won't you keep me company tonight?
Nightlight, bright light, won't you keep me company tonight?
Keep me company tonight. Keep me company tonight.
Goodnight!

Dancing On A Rainbow
Copyright © 2007 Amy Skelton Otey & Alexander v. Otey

There once was a Leprechaun, name of McNalley. He lived in the forest, now lives in the valley.
Each day he'd awake and jump out of bed and visions of rainbows would dance in his head.

And he'd sing...
CHORUS
Hi-Ho Hi-dee Ho
Searching for rainbows, high and low
With a hop, a skip and a jump I go
Searching for a rainbow

One day after a wonderfully peaceful rest he went out to the moor heading out on his quest.
There he encountered upon a log, a handsome green little frog.

He croaked to McNally, "Oh, Where are you going?” McNalley replied as the wind started blowing,
“A rainbow I seek, would you like to come too?” Frog said, "I don't mind if I do"

And they sang... CHORUS

The two wandered on as they searched for their prize. When what was before them, in front of their eyes,
a pretty white dove nesting low in a tree cooing merrily.

She whistled brightly, "Oh, where are you bound?" “A rainbow we seek, but we have not found.”
McNally proposed, "Would like to come too?" Dove said, "I don't mind if I do."

And they sang...CHORUS

The clouds gathered deep as the friends journeyed on. The rain started falling as they moved along.
They searched for a dry place to plant their feet, when they heard above them a questioning bleat.

"Myyyyyyy goodness! “Hello, who are you standing there?" "You're searching for what, and you're off going where?" Said McNalley, the Frog and the Dove with a sigh, “We’re searching for rainbows, up in the sky.”

They were all standing under the goat keeping dry, “Perhaps you have seen one today, by and by?"
The goat said, "Indeed, you don't have to ask why, you only need open your eyes."

The storm disappeared and the sunshine came out. McNalley exclaimed, "There it is!" with a shout.
"A rainbow above is what we've wished for so. Away we're off. To the rainbow we go”.

And they sang...CHORUS

Now surely most Leprechauns want for the gold but McNalley is different, as now you've been told.
A journey with friends was his ultimate goal. To dance on a rainbow, that’s bold!

And they sang...
Hi-Ho Hi-dee Ho
Searching for rainbows, high and low
With a hop and a skip and a jump we go
Dancing on a rainbow!

Under The Midnight
Copyright © 1995, 2007 Amy Skelton Otey & Alexander V. Otey

[spoken]
Years ago when mankind first walked the earth
the sun defined the day.
But with observation and through invention
we have made the world a brighter place.

Who is this man who works in the night alone by candlelight?
His name is Ben Franklin, and he's learning what he can
about the lighting that flashes so brightly.

CHORUS
And he worked under, he worked under, he worked, under the midnight sky
And he worked under; he worked under, under the midnight sky.

[spoken]
Ben Franklin studied lightning forming theories about how to harness it.
He was one of several experimenters such as; William Watson, Henry
Cavendish, Joseph Priestly, Lugi Galvonni, Alessandro Volta, George Simon Ohm, and Michael Faraday who contributed to our understanding of electricity. Each of these great minds formed theories that helped inventors further enhance our world.

CHORUS
And they worked under, they worked under, they worked, under the midnight sky.
And they worked under; they worked under, under the midnight sky

Who is this other man who searches the night for another way to make it bright?
His name is Thomas Edison and he’s had the medicine
to make inventions that brighten our world.

CHORUS
And he looked under, he looked under, he looked, under the midnight sky
And he looked under; he looked under, under the midnight sky

Evening skies can be so delightful:
total darkness without light so frightful.
Find a way to get through.
Invent the world around you.
Just follow the light
of the moon under midnight

Who is this child who sleeps so soundly,
and dreams wonderful dreams?
The moon watches over, echoing the past instilling inspiration, guiding toward tomorrow.

CHORUS
And, she sleeps under, she sleeps under, she sleeps, under the midnight sky.
And she sleeps under she sleeps under, under the midnight sky

We all dream under, we dream under, we dream, under the midnight sky.
Yes, we dream under, we dream under, under the midnight, under the
midnight, under the midnight, under the midnight, under the midnight,
under the midnight, under the midnight sky.

It's Not Impossible
Copyright © 2007 Amy Skelton Otey & Alexander v. Otey

It's not impossible, if you dream it, it can be
It's not impossible, believe and you will see

It's not impossible it's possible to me
It's not impossible, believing is the key.

Flying used to seem,
impossible you see.
But now we all have wings
and many wonderful things,
dreamers and inventors make it so.

It's not impossible, if you dream it, it can be.
It's not impossible, believe and you will see.

When you try so hard and it just work out the very first time,
you know that you must try again. It will all work out fine.
And sometimes it seems to take so long, like it never will be.
But I tell you now, believe in you, and the dreams that set you free.

Talking with someone far away
used to seem impossible.
But now the phone rings,
and your voice it brings
us closer together,
closer together.

It's not impossible, if you dream it, it can be.
It's not impossible, believe and you will see.

Believe!
You've got to believe!
Just believe.
